rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

the debut release on sores could be by none other than martyr of sores. it is a project of the prominent experimental artist richard ramirez, with hundreds of productions to his name. richard has worked with names like prurient, thurston moore, the haters and merzbow just to name a few. he is also an avantgarde fashion designer. ’ceremony’ is a monumental noise piece in two parts. electrical whirlwind sounds that grows ever so slowly to take you in and tighten it’s grip around your very being. chants evolve in and out of the inferno that are nothing less than astonishing. a hard and beautiful noise work, thanks richard.

fuckthegovernment.ltd, a.k.a. f.t.g (alfredo trastulli) and music box head honcho, marco riff, return to the skylax fold in 2016 with a cache of house nuggets for our listening pleasure. their last venture on skylax saw f.t.g collaborate with a bunch of his friends, resulting in some of the best tracks we’d heard all year, including the unforgettable fuckthegovernment theme. their tracks have been celebrated and hailed by some of the best djs in the game, names such as derrick may, ricardo villalobos, raresh, and dj harvey. the bar set by the first record remains sky high, and somehow, these two manage to raise the bar even higher. it may be the biggest cliche going when talking about an album, but the duo certainly do take us on a journey, through the past and present of house music. it’s a record not too dissimilar in tone to paranoid london’s from a few years back, but f.t.g and marco strip things back even further than those guys did, in our opinion, the sound is more raw with less frills, and no track names to predispose feelings in the listener either. this eight track project is cohesive and elaborate, with movements through sounds both acid and jazzy, minimal and maximal. it explores sounds that came to prominence in famous house locales such as detroit and chicago over in the u.s., but the underground european influence is definitely present, from paris to berlin, and of course f.t.g and marco’s home of italy. with this album, these guys add to the underground sound that has cultivated in the city of perugia for years now, a place that has seen the likes of simoncino and nicholas hone their craft.don’t miss out on a piece of skylax history

seth troxlers play it say it label looks to sean miller for its next essential bit of dance floor dynamite. this 11th firing release on the label features two killer cuts from the canadian producer. miller has been turning out taste making tracks on a consistent basis for a decade now. releasing on mobilee, area remote and ovum he is no stranger to the best labels out there and this latest missive is another offering that will keep djs and dancers happy all summer long and beyond. the momentous a side ‘tiger spirit it’ is ten tantalising minutes of deep and seductive house music. clever drum fills, poised synth stabs and vocal coos all add oil to the groove as playful kicks punch out an infectious pattern below. this is proving to be one of key tracks in seth’s tracks this summer: ‘it’s driving the crowds wild’. ‘together’ is less physical but certainly more emotional offering. playing out perfectly effortlessly, it has swirling pads and trilling chords adding some sensuous summer sunshine to the vibe fuelled house drums below. troxler has once again unearthed a brilliant release from a talented producer right at the top of his game.

one per customer ... the wonderful black ops sub label from the sleazybeats people wraps up, which has been a monumentally successful series by anyone s standards, with an ep from the notorious sample bandits, the popular peoples front over a decade after launching a distinctive series whose ambitions amounted to no less than condensing thirty years of black club music into a beautifully packaged, portable collage of sonic sample goodness, the sb crew tracked them down & appealed to their anarchic, nihilistic nature by offering them the final release on the label. the ppf project itself came to a close at release no. 10, so the synchronicity was strong for no other reason than a desire to celebrate dancefloor abandon and strive to soundtrack the purest forms of hedonism, ambiguous sexuality and a transcendent celebration of outsider culture, not to mention a green light to shamelessly exploit, steal and otherwise pilfer their source material, they said yes. after trying, with no small amount of success to transcend the basic edit through the ppf series, the band have again worked their collage approach into three truly magical cuts as always, this is a limited, vinyl only release. it will not be repressed and will not be released digitally. not now, not ever

damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline—a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970’s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then—all affirming damien’s less-is-more ideology. with side b’s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine’s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.

after some remix projects and a lot of work on their new live set, the next original mix from saitezwei will be released as digital and vinyl release. also for this project, the two guys cooperatedwith the label tach & nacht from hamburg. the song is a mixture of deep and tech house elements with driving drum structures, saite zwei typical harmonies and a lot of variety. despite complex melodies and heavy chords, the entire ep has become very clubby and danceable this time. among other songs, the release will contain a remix of -morja-. the b side comes with an original track by morja called -reborn-. less melody, more groove could be the topic in comparison to his former releases. coming with a tight set of percussion and a phat forward driving bassline, reborn surprises with some contrary played organ sounds adding even more thrust and energy to the tune. definitely a track to remember. the side gets completed by an interpretation of saite zweis -nighting ale-.

the excellent field label embarks on a new mini trilogy of eps that will -present a magical journey through modern-day trance.- first up in the series is artefakt with their three track effort the final theory. dutch producers robin koek and nick lapien make up artefakt, and between them they excel at moody voodoo music on labels like delsin. they open this latest ep with the title track, a deep, spacious house roller with subtle pads and gentle acid that perform slow motion acrobatics for nearly ten minutes. it is suspensory, dreamy music that works on the head as well as the heel. moving horizon is then less doleful and introspective but just as deep, with sweeping pads add a sense of scale, busy drums bring the dynamism and icy percussive sounds adding a sense of urgency. last but not least, solaris is a fatter, more physical groove with claps and gloopy bass, acid flashes and trancey pads all fleshing out a lush and deep electro workout. this is heavenly stuff that cannot fail to get inside your head and heart.

tim green is back with another brace of high impact club tunes of the sort that have made him one of the most in demand producers of the day. whether serving up rolling techno treats for cocoon, essential mixes for the body language series on get physical or laying down compelling club sets in the dj booth, brit tim green is unstoppable right now. here he steps up to the get weird imprint with two more tantalising cuts that show just how broad and brilliant an artist he is. stirring opener ‘for a memory’ is eleven minutes of wordless and intoxicating female vocals, slick rubbery drums and plunging bass. the overall effect is hypnotic, rolling and perfectly groovy, and it will no doubt have whole dancefloors locked under its spell. some little melodic explosions, sweeping filters and luscious pads all help add a real air of grace to proceedings that mark it out as another classic from green. ‘for a distant memory’ is a subtle but noteworthy reworking of the same cut. in this one, the drums are less direct and more stripped back, there is a focus on the angelic, glowing pads and on spine tingling slices of synth that are reflective and emotive as they drop in and out. it is a perfectly trance inducing, heart warming cut that the likes of lee burridge at his all day i dream parties, or various djs playing on a sun kissed terrace around the globe, will all lap right up. these are two more essential tracks from the ever on point tim green.

next up on will & ink is a second release from yeleesa hall & malin, hot on the heels of their last collaborative effort, lucas, at the end of 2015. once again the mysterious hall and amsterdam/paris based oscillate music boss cook up some hard hitting house that is sonically inventive. opener first carol has hulking kicks and hits and a writhing, monstrous sounding synth line that brings real rawness and energy to the four-four beats all around it. some spooky little beat-less passage of eerie industrial sounds appear before second carol again slips into a well swung and purposeful groove. this one is rubbery and rolling, with dubbed out chords riding up and down and airy hats adding a sense of scale. another ep of contemporary club music of the highest order.

andreas gehm is known for his fierce, unapologetic acid style. but the cologne man does have a more mellow side, a smoother side, and that s what this three tracker is. of course, smooth gehm still has some rough edges. -yellow flowers- combines thick pads, skittering beats, warming samples and frigid bars in an intoxicating brew. malice and menace rear their ashen faces for the evil machinations of -late at night-, muffled vocals and sharpened snares glinting in the streetlights. safety arrives in the form of the aptly titled -less violence.- rhythms are still rough edged, melodies still have an underhanded element. yet there is a subdued humanity in the sweetened strings, emotion coming to a head as the needle runs out.

greg belson s divine disco is a snapshot in time encapsulating the raw power of a spiritual performance, set to the pulsating 4/4 rhythms that were in vogue with the dance floors of the day. tip! labels like savoy played a key part in identifying artists that fit nicely into this brand new style with performers like shirley finney and the gospelaires, both of whom were established within the scene, but carried the disco torch brightly with their tunes featured here. divine disco also paints a picture of the lesser known acts that privately released their message to the hopeful masses, such as the gospel ambassadors and the inspirational souls, whose recording budgets would have been significantly less than any major label.

transatlantyk return with a double header informed by the dark continent label regular universo (architect of their best ep no less) cooks up a splendid slice of culturally appropriated, campfire heat. its graceland era paul simon fed through some expertly assembled 21st century software. on the flip ryan r (reynolds maybe?) offers up umqondo. as western polands answer to awesome tapes from africa, we d say he knows from whence he takes. its a groove so thick even dr livingstone would have trouble hacking through it, an immersive ride though to be sure, and one which will make infinitely more sense at 4am sunday morning than it does at midday on a tuesday.

after showcasing the debut releases from the high on wye quintet (magic mountain high, soulphiction and steevio) and monoak, the freerotation label returns with a various artists 12” featuring four more artists intrinsically linked by the annual festival. anthony child, aka surgeon, has been a regular fixture since first appearing at freerotation in 2011. his recent exploration of modular synthesis and use of the buchla music easel has found a home in the ambient yurt at the festival, and equally has manifested in album projects such as 2015’s electronic recordings from maui jungle vol 1. “unconscious fearless determination” follows on from this more experimental, less dancefloor-focused side to child’s work, while still pulsing with the techno fundamentals that quickly defined him back in the mid ‘90s. duckett hails from north wales, and has been a key part of the freerotation fabric since the beginning of the event. after some releases on mindtours, mindyourhead and sthlmaudio back in the mid-‘00s, his music has started to reach a new audience through releases on untilmyheartstops and a clutch of lauded live performances. “breaks my heart when i remember that day” captures the alien synthesis and emotional heft that singles duckett out as such a remarkable artist. steevio is the co-founder of freerotation and mindtours records, responsible for a huge swathe of techno releases reaching back to the ‘90s. as well as his releases on mindtours, he has recently appeared on untilmyheartstops and in collaboration with pev on schmorgabsord, and is set to appear on russ gabriel’s new label rivers of groove. with its expressive swells of off-kilter melody and snaking drum lines, “pendulum” continues the thread of exploration steevio has been following on his journey into experimental modular techno. tom ellis has been prolifically issuing forth material in a soul-enriched space in between house, techno and funk for more than ten years. from running the acclaimed trimsound label to releasing albums and singles on telegraph, archipel, hartchef discos and more recently ethereal sound to name but a few, tom’s recorded work and immersive live performances continue to reach out to new moods and timbres. “as a take” finds tom at his most reflective, layering on dubby effects and organic instrumentation in a truly meditative end to the ep.

adventuring into the electronic mystic lands is vincentiulian, who tames the analog machines in his own twisted way into 2 carefully crafted tunes. simodul on side a exploits the whining oscillators to drive the audience into the energy of the simple yet hypnotizing kick. flipping the record we find alpha, enlighting our spirits with its wobbly bassline, entangled within radiant strobes of pensive rhythms.

unrelated is back with black as night ep by vesàlio ( kapvt mvndi ) side project of livio improta, vesàlio was born from the necessity to change something in his way of producing. less rhythm section and more emphasis on the atmosphere and field recordings, the last one the essential part of this project. a1 - in “n at alba- the concept of vesàlio is pure,clear, and deep , where the atmosphere is the main character of the track. a2 - -black as night” probably is the conflict between the two artistical parts, dark and despondent sounds, in contrast with the rthythm of the drum section. the perfect sound for a science fiction movie, totally mysterious ! b - o.xander (nous disques) decided to solve it bringing back the track into a classic raw theme with his antartica reshape

faraway reach casts classixx’s young-but-nostalgic melodies and sublime chords in a more mature, restrained light, albeit no less lively and bright. establishing themselves as producers of note on their debut lp (pitchfork called them “great songwriters, too”), faraway reach delivers powerfully smooth and soulful jewels that are still decidedly their own - the classixx signature is one that can’t be traced. their love of plaintive voices and disco-inspired grooves is as evident as ever, but this time around everything is a bit bolder, the cast is bigger, the melodies distilled into a higher potency - it’s all just as good, but better. “on the first record, we wanted to include only people that were our friends, and have it be really personal…” david begins, a thought blake finishes: “this time we wanted to make a record with a lot of different kinds of vocals, to see if we could be the common thread.” the album traverses locales, vocalists and inspirations. it s a fitting movement for the duo, from venice beach to the mountains of south africa and everywhere in between - a faraway reach.

been to long - the well remebered chorus of a successfull parisian duos single hit comes easily to mind while thinking of the latest internasjonal release. after a long hiatus - which feels like surely way long - we restart with one half of the formerly well known milanese pair - boogie drama - and it s very own lele sacchi. deejaying since 1995 sacchi has been and is still one of italys and especially milans musical icons - at least for electronic and alternative worlds, presents himself in his signature style. high on the heals of the success with rebirths smash lele sacchi vs blonde redhead - youre only kosmiquest is dark and cryptic, with a mean but very neat and elegant bassline plus an unmatched groove and feel for the floor. this time well balanced with a tad into psycheledic strinig heaven, wich combined with electronic effects is his ultimate kosmische quest. the whole thing is contered by an airy and superbright no less danceable lauer version and a fantatsic relaxed italo take on kraut which can propably be non done much better than byprins thomas walking on that lunga strada!

following eps for creme organization and w.t. records, art crime delivers a four tracker of meltingly good music on pinkman records. chords cascade, blending and reforming, in the warming wonder of still life , dead carnation is from a similar place. keys skipping down scales, dancing down them as percussion lends a touch of weight. distant is the mood changer. rain falls, smoke whirls and the night descends in this dark and intoxicating encounter. but those clouds part for the close. lush pads and soaring notes break through for calming currents of the less than aptly titled hectic . an artist rewriting stereotypes, an ep of true quality.

fuse london have cemented their place in the worldwide underground with an unwavering belief in the dj and production talents of an extended network of friends and they once again hit gold with antony difrancesco and samuel bellis db productions ep - 87-88 kicks things off with a distinctly fuse-esque sound, a hazy tripped out groove and spoken female vocal ride a raw jungle tinged b-line. one way to pluto is the eps vinyl only track and keeps things deep but no less driving whilst adderall adds an almost techno sensibility in its quirkier elements. to round the ep off label head enzo siragusa once again joins forces with alexkid under their kilimanjaro guise to provide a sleek dub interpretation of 87-88

ext returns with his follow up to the third installment of house shoes reputable “the gift” series with “arts & craft”. ext cleared off his desktop about a year ago and sent me everything he had been working on. all of the tracks were in various stages of development. some loops, some fully fleshed out, some sounded like sketches. it drew my attention because of the resounding innocence of the collection, an innocence that is more or less gone from the industry in 2015. listen and learn what it sounds like to just have the intention to create, not muddled with the star aspirations or big money dreams. just to create.

powerdance is a collective formed by luke solomon and nick maurer formed as a reaction to bland soul less dance music that seems to infiltrating nightclubs the world over. luke and nicks comradely stems back many many years to their association with the classic music company a label formed by derrick carter and luke. nick maurer was one half of the then prolific greens keepers. this ep for optimo trax features the wigged epically funkoid gem mysterious space plane who doesn t like songs about space? on the other side is the modern hyper jacking more fire. alongside these are a reprise of mysterious space plane and a bonus beats of more fire for those djs who like to, are able to get creative with their mixing

for the debut of his newfound label ipso records, ko&#776,,,,lsch wanted to try something new. he has long been a fan of limiting himself in the studio. sometimes working with less equipment brings out the best in you, so for the first release i figured it would be interesting to experiment with this, ko&#776,,,,lsch says. inspired by the danish dogma films, he decided to make a rule, and as he is not one for overdoing things, the rule is very simple.

it s fair to say that boris bunnik has made an impact in his short career. in less than a decade this dutch man, under monikers like conforce and versalife, has scaled electro and techno with subtle ambient touches and idm echoes. and that s exactly what he s doing for the singularity ep. lush pads and flowing bars punctuated by crisp percussion, -shine eye- sets the scene. -autobots- adopts those same brittle beats, this time using them to send dreaming strings skyward. northern winds swirl around the colder chords of -milnet-, chords that dawn into absorbing swirls of -transgenics.- masterful machine music.

following his uplifting 2015 single holdin on and its techy b-side faces, rony seikaly is back for another release on yoshitoshi that proves this renaissance man is a force to be reckoned with in modern house music. the two tracks on this ep possess deep grooves, but also flex a fair amount of melodic muscle. they liken back to the sound yoshitoshi became well known for in its infancy. the sword centers around some tribal percussion and carefully woven melodic ideas, but the track?s focus is decidedly on low end. a burly, assertive bass gives the mix a driving character suited for late nights. at time it feels like a modern take on progressive house from another era. all of a sudden is more or less an extension of the first track, giving the ep defined consistency. it s a delicately arranged and straightforward house feeler, the meat coming from a multitude of interlaced chords and melodies maneuvering carefully over more tribal percussion and a monstrous kick. the mission here is to inspire awe and wonder in dancers, and seikaly delivers on both accounts.

to celebrate record store day 2016, claremont 56 is proud to present something rather special – a killer single-sided release whose origins are shrouded in mystery. “tropic of capricorn” arrived at c56 hq with little or no information. while its’ humid sound effects and glistening, unfurling melodies evoke hazy memories of mediterranean sunsets and adriatic sunrises, the track’s creators live east of ukraine, in the colder surrounds of the russia. regardless of who made it, you’ll struggle to find a single that’s quite as warm, tactile and seductively groovy. built around a hypnotic, slo-mo groove, “tropic of capricorn” soothes and sedates from start to finish. its’ ingredients are relatively sparse – think gently undulating beats, toasty chords and an electric harp that gently ebb and flow like the waters of a mountain stream – but the results are nothing less than stunning.

uk techno veteran broom is one of the most consistent producers in the game and on neon, he delivers four killer dance floor tracks. inspired in equal parts by the swirling, dub techno of chain reaction and the insistent, loopy techno of mid to late-90s jeff mills, the release starts with the steel-plate percussion and churning chord builds of -m19-. broom keeps his focus on that approach for -energy-, where doubled-up claps and clanging chords create an eerie but urgent sensibility, while the title track is a slightly less visceral affair thanks to the inclusion of a sleepy vocal sample amid the churning keys. finally, -involver- sees broom focus his energies elsewhere, its acidic, grimy groove coming across like steve bicknell in a bad mood.
